This month is...
Mental Health Awareness Month.
Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder to do what we so often forget to do. It’s a reminder to really focus on taking care of not just our physical well-being but also our mental well-being.
Last week I took a little solo vacation. I was craving a beach getaway where I could read a book in-full, take social media and my email off my phone and relax. Relaxing was not something that happened for much of the pandemic. It was extremely refreshing and yet when I returned, I quickly jumped back into too much time on social media and refreshing my email so often.
I’m trying to be more conscious of how I spend my time. I’m trying to walk at least 10,000 steps a day because I always feel better when I do. I’m trying to be more consistent with meditating because I sleep better when I do. I keep saying I’m going to get back to yoga and need to actually do it because my body aches and I know yoga can help. And the list goes on and on. The bottomline is thinking about it, observing how I feel and prioritizing the things that make me feel better, physically and emotionally.
Today’s Prompt (12): How does your physical health impact your mental health? How does your mental health impact your physical health? How are they connected? How do you manage it?
Turn your phone on airplane mode and remove all distractions. Set a timer and write for 25 minutes. I encourage you to write in a notebook instead of on your computer or phone - don’t edit while you’re writing. When the timer goes off, if you have the time, space and interest to continue, go for it.
Happy writing!
