Resistance
In the sixth session of the Made Visible Writing Class on Tuesday, one of my students started writing about why she is self-destructive in ways that could harm her health. While others with her condition or conditions like hers are on specific diets and don’t drink, she has refused those restrictions. I related so much to this and had started writing about it too earlier this year. While I certainly know my diet impacts the way my body functions and how I feel, it’s hard for me to restrict myself. I want to consume what I want to consume.
Today’s Prompt (15): Write about your experience with resistance. Are you self-destructive in ways that could harm your health? Have you avoided a certain diet or treatment? Why? How does it make you feel?
Turn your phone on airplane mode and remove all distractions. Set a timer and write for 25 minutes. I encourage you to write in a notebook instead of on your computer or phone - don’t edit while you’re writing. When the timer goes off, if you have the time, space and interest to continue, go for it.
