Invisible side of invisible illness
I’ve recently been experiencing some new symptoms that I’ve never had before. My legs are achy and it’s harder for me to make my bed, pick something up off the floor and even get up from a chair. Luckily it’s not pain but it’s also not enjoyable. I feel like an older person who is really feeling the changes in their body as they get older. And while yes, we’re all getting older (whether we like it or not), this doesn’t feel like something “normal” for someone in their mid 30’s.
I asked my doctor and she confirmed that because of having hyper-flexible joints from my condition, it can often lead to some arthritis over time. Ugh, not what I wanted to hear.
When I mentioned the new discovery to a friend the other day, she asked some good follow up questions trying to better understand what I was going through but it was really hard to explain the invisible things going on inside my body. There was nothing for her to see or feel, and I was having a hard time explaining what it felt like.
There are so many aspects of illness that are invisible.
Today’s Prompt (18): What role does the 'invisible' part of invisible illness play in your life?
Set a timer for 20 minutes. Turn off all other notifications, alarms and eliminate any background noises and distractions. Light a candle. Grab your favorite drink and get cozy. Write for 25 minutes. If you are in a zone, keep writing. Don’t edit while you’re writing — let your hand take control.
